How to Prepare for COD: Modern Warfare 2
With 7 days remaining you might think that you have plenty of time to prepare for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. WRONG! There’s heaps to do, and nowhere near enough time to do it! Fortunately we’ve devised a day-by-day program, to ensure that you have all of your affairs in order prior to November 10.
Straight off the bat you should have made sure that you will have access to the game months ago; either through a preorder or just the appropriate funding. If you don’t currently have the money, why are you still here? Hell, sell a kidney if you must (or go to work, whatever).
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will be released world wide on November 10, on the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC.
How to Prepare for Modern Warfare 2 in 7 Days
7 Days Remaining: Play Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare
Before you buy Modern Warfare 2 you have to get your skills up in the original.
If you’re into first person shooters chances are the words “Call of Duty” alone have you drooling all over your nice new suit (if you have a nice new suit). However, as it’s now 2 years old chances are you haven’t been playing COD4 as regularly as you once did. Now is the time to jump back online. Say goodbye to World War II, or any other game, and head back to the Modern Warfare. The last thing you want come November 10 is for some high-pitched tween kid, the most hated type of player on Xbox Live/PSN, to absolutely destroy you before mummy forces him (or her, but then high-pitch thing is less of an issue) to go to bed.
6 Days Remaining: Go Paintballing
Now that your COD aim is back, it’s time to get the upper hand by heading outdoors.
Heading outdoors to prepare for a videogame? It’s madness! But if you really want to prepare grab a few mates and head out to the local paintballing course. Why will this help? Paintballs are a lot more painful than videogames, and more costly after extended play. Combined, these reasons should be more than enough to help with the defensive side of your game. After all, you don’t want to fail instantly by becoming too trigger heavy now do you?
If this is not a viable option, laser tag is plan B. You can play in an established venue, or in your own backyard. It might seem a little childish, but damn it if it’s good enough for Barney Stinson then it’s good enough for me!
5 Days Remaining: Set-up Your Gaming Area
Charge controllers, check the Internet cap and prepare your consoles/PC
With 5 days remaining it’s time to set-up your gaming rig. First make sure everything is working. Just to be on the safe side you might want to purchase a back up 360, or several. It tends to RROD at very inconvenient moments. Next make sure your Internet is in good shape. If it looks like you’ll get capped around November 10 then boot everyone else off the PC. Now be cautious with your net usage. Perhaps less random YouTube videos while you’re meant to be working?
If you really want to pimp out your gaming area get a comfy, yet practical, chair. There’s no point sitting on a chair that won’t have you playing at your peak. Sacrifice comfort for performance at all times! Next you’ll want to eliminate all non-essential lights from your room, including the big bad sun. These will just be annoying, and ruin the mood.
If you live with non-gaming folk, installing a lock on the door is the best way to go about avoiding them. Sound proofing is also advised to drown out the sound of mum yelling “what are you doing in there?” As gamers, by ‘sound proofing’ we really mean make more noise than anyone else to overpower them. This means it’s time set-up you gaming playlist. There’ll be no time for skipping through unwanted songs during the heat of battle, so choose carefully.
4 Days Remaining: Clean a Small Area for MW2
Clean up a small area for the unboxing of Modern Warfare 2.
The last thing you want is to drop your brand new game into the remains of last Tuesday’s dinner. Clean up a small area to open Modern Warfare 2, and experience that tantalizing new game smell. You may also want to consider cleaning the path between your screen and you, so that nothing obstructs your field of vision.
Should you clean up the rest of the house? No definitely not. There’ll be no need to use anything else in your house, apart from perhaps the fridge and the occasional toilet break. Cleaning anything else would be a complete waste of time. Unless anything has died, the cleaning process can be delayed.
3 Days Remaining: Stock Up
Stock up now while you have the chance.
You will need to have the following things ready:
- Meal food - it’s important that this is easy and fast to prepare. No time for that healthy rubbish.
- Snacks – what ever you want to keep you going while gaming. The only requirement is that it’s one handed, or else you’d actually have to stop.
- Energy drinks/caffeine – anything with caffeine in it is a must
- Pizza & beer – the perfect gaming food/drink combo. It will grease up your controller/keyboard, so perhaps best to keep it to one night only.
- Deodorant – avoid showering, see.
- Spare controllers – have them ready to go just incase there is a terrible accident involving your input device of choice and one of the above items.
- Camping equipment – interpret what that means as you will, from a caravan to a tent to a chair in front of a shop. Whatever you need on launch night.
2 Days Remaining: Complete all Responsibilities or Fake Own Death
Complete everything required of you, or walk off the face of the Earth.
Chances are you’ll have some type of responsibilities. Whether it be a job, a family, homework or even a goldfish to feed. You have two options: either complete everything required of you, or fake your own death. You could also come up with an extravagant lie as to why you are unavailable for the next few days, but if you prefer to procrastinate save that for your miracle survival story. If you’re a responsible human being you’ll most likely take the former. If you’re a student, save yourself the trouble and take the latter. You’re almost a professional excuse maker by the end of your studies anyway, right?
1 Day Remaining: Say Goodbye to Loved Ones & Set-up Camp
Say your goodbyes, for a few days at least, and head down to your local game retailer.
If you’re headed to a midnight launch you want first position in the line. Say your goodbyes to loved ones nice and early, if you haven’t faked your own death, and head over to your local game retailer. If there isn’t a midnight launch then you’re extremely committed at this point – good on you. If this is the case you’ll need the camping equipment we suggested early, or at least a fold up chair. More importantly you’ll need a DS/PSP to help pass the time.
If you’re lucky enough to have a midnight launch near you, then head on over nice and early. Enjoy the spectacle, but waste no time after you get the game. I don’t care if Maccas is open 24hrs, get home NOW!
Launch Day: Play Modern Warfare 2 or Die Trying!
Play Modern Warfare 2 for as long as humanly possible!
Call in sick, get the game ASAP and post like mad on MyPS3/My360/MyFrag, or all 3, between online matches.
